Hilma Sophia was born at the farm home at New Sweden, Iowa. She married Garfield Messer at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa where his parents farmed NW of the city. Several generations of Garfield's family had lived in Iowa, but came originally from New York state, and at one time owned the land where a part of New York city now stands.
Hilma and Garfield lived on a farm south of Lockridge and in Lockridge until they retired and moved to Fairfield in 1951.
This couple found rest at Evergreen Cemetary at Fairfield, Iowa.
