Carl Sodergren Obituary
Pioneer resident of Wayland dies at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 20 days. (Died Oct. 31, 1936)

Carl Sodergren, father of the editor of the Wayland News, passed away at the home of his son, Sunday afternoon at one o’clock. Mr. Sodergren had a stroke of paralysis on October 19th and suffered still another 11 days later from which he never rallied.

Mr. Sodergren, although born in Sweden, April 11, 1860, has been a resident of this country since 1880. He located near Fairfield in Jefferson County where he engaged in farming for a short time. From there he went to Burlington where he worked for a wagon-maker named, Gudekaunst.

He came to Wayland in 1888 and worked for the late William Henss Sr. Mr. Sodergren later became established in the manufacturing of wagons and in this achieved the reputation of thoroughness and honesty of business that extended far beyond the Wayland trade territory.
He was married to Miss Augusta M. Nelson, June 2, 1891. Mrs. Sodergren died in 1930.

One son, Clair survives him.

He is also survived by one brother, Audel Sodergren in Sweden.

Mr. Sodergren was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church in Sweden but upon his coming to Wayland united with the local Methodist church of which he has been a member for many years.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Wed. afternoon at 1:30 o’clock
and will be in charge of his pastor, Rev. O. J. Fix.
